SKA - Metallurg Magnitogorsk. Match day

Today on the 27^th of August, SKA will play their second home match of the 2016/2017 KHL regular season against HC Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Metallurg are the reigning KHL Gagarin Cup champions, and this promises to be a thrilling showdown between the league’s two previous winners. During the summer, the Ural outfit have managed to keep a hold of their top players, and veteran forward Sergei Mozyakin will again lead their line. Metallurg’s number ten already has two goals from as many games this campaign, and SKA cannot afford to give him an inch of space. Their other standout figure is goaltender Vasily Koshechkin, and he put in some standout performances to take Metallurg to the trophy last year.

Nevertheless, Magnitogorsk haven’t started the new KHL season so well, and after beating HC CSKA Moscow in their opener, they fell to Severstal Cherepovets 2:3 away.

Our team are coming off the back of a superb 7:1 thrashing of Salavat Yulaev, and the top line of Pavel Datsyuk, Ilya Kovalchuk and Sergei Plotnikov racked up an astonishing eleven points in that match alone. Goaltender Mikko Koskinen was also solid in net, stopping sixteen shots for a 94.1% saves percentage.

The SKA – Metallurg Magnitogorsk match will begin at 17.00 local time inside the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace. Life78 and KHL TV will broadcast the game live, and you can keep up to date with events on our official Twitter account!
