Igor Larionov speaks after playing Metallurg on the road

HC SKA head coach Igor Larionov:

"I would like to congratulate Magnitogorsk with their deserved victory. It's nice to see teams play exciting ice hockey, but losing is always disappointing. We will analyse what aspects of our game require improvement."

Lack of character...

"Regardless of how talented you are, you have to be prepared to fight for every puck and work hard for the benefit of the team. We spoke about this in the dressing room. Hopefully, our guys will think about what we had to say. I must note, however, that the discussion took place in a calm format. It's vital to maintain productive communication with every player."

Nikita Dishkovsky's recent lack of points...

"He's most effective on the flank where he can display his pace, determination, character and energy. However, we're lacking centre forwards at the moment. We want to use Nikita where he's most effective. Nikita is a useful player for us, but he needs to play with a good centre forward who can help him display his best qualities."

Possibility of being stricter with the team...

"The fact that Metallurg wanted it more than us today disappoints me. Nonetheless, I want to calmly speak to the players instead of ranting and raving. Sometimes, of course, you have to say things which aren't particularly nice in order to get through to the players."

Matter concerning Pierrick Dubé...

"He's not in our team, so I don't want to talk about him. Pierrick isn't playing because he lost the competition to the other players. Will be play again for SKA this season? No."

Goalkeeping issue...

"Yes, I know who's closest to becoming our first choice, but I won't share that information right now. All of our guys are trying hard, including Yegor Zavragin who is currently receiving game time with SKA-VMF in the VHL. We have practically reached our decision."

Not having enough leaders...

"We demand a lot from our experienced players, because we're presenting them with plenty of minutes and chances. As coaches, our task is to help everyone take the next step and play at a high level on a consistent basis. Consistency is what makes a team strong. In terms of today's match, then how we react to this defeat will speak volumes about us as a team."
