Resounding defeat in Magnitogorsk
Resounding defeat in Magnitogorsk

SKA suffered a heavy loss in the maiden game of this particular road trip, with Metallurg claiming an emphatic 5:1 victory in Magnitogorsk.
The fired-up hosts immediately took control of proceedings in the opening stanza.
Dominating the play across the ice and creating chance after chance, the hosts deservedly opened up a two-goal advantage, with Dmitry Silantyev cleverly backhanding past Artemiy Pleshkov when 1-on-1 and Alexander Petunin banking the rebound in on the powerplay.
Metallurg did indeed outshoot SKA 20-5 (!) in the first period.
Matters soon went from bad to worse for our team. Despite Pleshkov's heroics, Magnitogorsk pratically put the game to bed with two quickfire markers midway through the second stanza, as Artyom Minulin slamming home a rising attempt and familiar face Sergei Tolchinsky ruthlessly taking advantage of a poor SKA mistake.
Pleshkov was promptly replaced in favour of Sergei Ivanov.
Nevertheless, that change didn't have a particularly positive effect on the game. Markus Phillips did at least get SKA on the board when completing a flowing counter-attack in the 43rd minute, but Derek Barach had the last word for Metallurg with a powerplay effort five minutes later.
SKA will now prepare to face Lada in Tolyatti on Monday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 18:00 Moscow time.
