SKA take one point away from Vladivostok

28 November 2024

Despite being the only team to score 5-on-5, SKA came up short against Admiral Vladivostok on the road in the 2024/2025 KHL regular season, conceding a slender 2:3 defeat in a penalty shootout.

Marat Khairullin's late equaliser at equal strength had given SKA hope of emerging victorious in a tense, eventful encounter, but two unanswered shootout markers from Dmitry Zavgorodny and Nikita Soshnikov put paid to those hopes.

Alexander Nikishin had initially given SKA the advantage with a clever goal on the powerplay midway through the opening stanza. However, Admiral hit back with a PP goal of their own, as Soshnikov lashed a firm wrister past Pavel Moisevich's glove.

Jack Rodewald then handed Admiral their maiden advantage of the day when bundling home from point-blank range on another PP. Nevertheless, SKA responded well, forcing OT with around six minutes remaining with Khairullin completing a flowing counter-attack.

Sergei Tolchinsky, Khairullin, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Valentin Zykov all then failed to beat Andrei Mishurov in the ensuing shootout, meaning that our players had to be content with just the one point.

SKA will now prepare to play Amur in Khabarovsk on Saturday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 10:30 Moscow time.
