CSKA - SKA

CSKA - SKA - 4:0

7 November 2021

In a forgettable maiden Army Rivalry of the 2021/2022 KHL regular season, SKA endured a nightmare against CSKA, conceding a heavy 0:4 defeat in Moscow.

Our players initially made the brighter start. However, after wasting a powerplay and a handful of promising opportunities, CSKA made the breakthrough in the 13^th minute, as former SKA forward Vladislav Kamenev sent a powerful attempt under Lars Johansson’s glove.

CSKA promptly doubled their advantage two minutes later on the powerplay. Escaping his marker on the right wing, Kamenev was once again the hero for CSKA, firing a low attempt beyond Johansson.

In the closing minutes of a disappointing first period, Linden Vey passed up a good chance for SKA, tapping a rebound into Adam Reideborn’s chest. SKA did indeed outshoot CSKA 8-4 in the opening frame.

The second stanza saw SKA lay siege to the CSKA net and draw a further three penalties out of the Muscovites.

However, despite the likes of Nikita Gusev, Mikko Lehtonen and Alexander Volkov unleashing threatening efforts, Reideborn kept SKA at bay and didn’t allow the visitors to convert on any of those powerplays. Focusing on defence, CSKA barely spent any time inside our zone in the second period, and their only realistic chance saw Mikhail Grigorenko backhand wide when clean through.

The third period started with SKA once again applying pressure on the home team. Nevertheless, the ruthless CSKA were simply lethal with their opportunities, and they practically put the game to bed on the powerplay in the 50^th minute as Lucas Wallmark got the better of Johansson with a high wrister.

Unfortunately, just to make matters worse, Joakim Nordstrom snuck the puck over the line from the crease in the 58^th minute on another man-advantage to complete the scoring for CSKA.

SKA will next be in action on November 17 against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in Saint Petersburg after the upcoming international break. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
