Sochi - SKA - 5:4

In a nine-goal thriller, SKA just came up short against Sochi on the road in the 2023/2024 KHL regular season, suffering a narrow 4:5 setback.
Arseniy Gritsyuk initially gave SKA a positive start in the fourth minute. However, Sochi struck back within 40 seconds as familiar face Matvei Michkov completed a flowing counter-attack.
The hosts then opened up a two-goal advantage in the second stanza with Amir Garaev and Nikita Feoktistov both hitting the jackpot on the counter.
Vasily Glotov's effort was inadvertently turned beyond impressive Sochi goaltender Mikhail Berdin by a home player in the early stages of the third period. Sochi responded in the 56th minute, though, as Garaev netted their fourth while competing on the powerplay.
It subsequently turned out to be a breathless finish.
Nikita Kamalov's pass was deflected over the line, before Nikolai Rasskazov hit the empty net for the home side. Refusing to throw in the towel, SKA got back to within one again with seven seconds remaining through Alex Galchenyuk, but our team did run out of time.
SKA will now prepare to face Dinamo Minsk in Belarus on Wednesday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:10 local time.
