SKA - HC Sochi - 3:1

10 September 2018

In Saint Petersburg, SKA hosted HC Sochi at the Ice Palace for the second KHL home match of the 2018/2019 season. Following the defeat against Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Saturday, head coach Ilya Vorobyov made a number of changes to the line-up, notably putting goalkeeper Igor Shestyorkin in net and young defenseman Vladislav Syomin in the fourth line. Former SKA player Dmitry Shikin was Sochi's goaltender.

48 seconds before the first break, the hosts managed to open the scoring, as Ilya Kablukov reacted quickest to a rebound on the crease and slid the puck beyond the stranded Dmitry Shikin. As the game progressed, SKA began to dominate proceedings, pinning Sochi in their own zone and creating plenty of opportunities.

Midway through the second frame, Nikolai Prokhorkin doubled SKA's money, before Nikita Gusev made it three when clean through. Sochi's Igor Schitov did get the home team on the board in the third period with a hopeful attempt from long range, but SKA held on to win 3:1!
