SKA - Sochi - 2:1

13 January 2022

In Saint Petersburg, SKA managed to keep HC Sochi at bay, defeating the away team 2:1 in the 2021/2022 KHL regular season.

As a consequence of this victory, our players have indeed formally qualified for the upcoming Gagarin Cup playoffs, which are scheduled to begin at the start of March.

Marat Khusnutdinov opened the scoring for SKA in the 16th minute of play, pouncing on a big rebound to neatly tap the puck beyond Maxim Tretyak in the Sochi net.

Both teams subsequently squandered plenty of excellent opportunities. The next goal only arrived in the 56th minute, though, as Mikhail Vorobyov gave a flowing play the finish it deserved from the high slot.

The game looked done and dusted as a contest. But, with two and a half minutes remaining in the third frame, Dmitry Kolgotin reached the loose puck on the crease and got the better of Yaroslav Askarov with the backhand.

Nevertheless, Sochi ran out of time and didn't even manage to pull Tretyak in favour of the extra skater with SKA effectively protecting possession in the attacking zone.
