Comeback falls short in Yaroslavl
Comeback falls short in Yaroslavl

In a hard-fought, penalty-littered contest, SKA came close to earning points in Yaroslavl, but a last-gasp conceded goal resulted in a dramatic 2:4 loss to Yaroslavl.
Overtime was on the cards after SKA had recovered from a two-goal deficit, however Lokomotiv struck the killer blow with a little over two minutes remaining.
The hosts had initially taken the lead through Maxim Shalunov midway through the first period, who pounced on the loose puck on the slot.
With Lokomotiv taking penalties with alarming regularity, SKA were presented with enough opportunities to get back into proceedings. However, against the run of play, Alexander Radulov doubled Lokomotiv's advantage in the 29th minute, expertly turning the puck under Yegor Zavragin from the doorstep.
Nevertheless, SKA turned it around in the third stanza.
Nikita Dishkovsky finally got the visiting on the board in the 43rd minute, wiring his rising wrister over Daniil Isayev's glove having received a clever pass from KHL debutant Ignat Lutfullin.
Valentin Zykov then appeared to have salvaged a point for SKA in the 57th minute when turning the rebound home on the powerplay. Shalunov had other ideas, though, whipping a firm wrist shot past Zavragin from distance with our goalkeeper unable to get across in time.
Martin Gernat iced it for Lokomotiv with an empty-netter.
SKA will now prepare to face Avtomobilist in Yekaterinburg on Wednesday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 Moscow time.
