SKA - Dinamo Riga. Press-conference

7 December 2020

HC Dinamo Riga head coach Peteris Skudra:

- It was a good match for us. We started too cautiously, though, we didn't need to show so much caution. Nevertheless, we spoke in the break and the guys subsequently proved that they aren't afraid to play ice hockey. They did what we demand of them. We managed to turn the game around, displaying excellent discipline at the same time. I thank the guys for their commitment, we really needed this win.

- Your players struggled to create chances in overtime when on the powerplay.

- We had good shooting lanes. However, it must be noted that SKA are great when on the penalty kill. And, of course, the ice is always worse in overtime. We did manage to score on the powerplay during regulation.

- There weren't many fans inside the Ice Palace today. Did that help Riga?

- I'm dreaming for that amount of supporters to be at our matches in Latvia! We can't have any fans at our games because of local restrictions. You don't need to cheer Saint Petersburg on, they already have a star-studded team and like to play exciting ice hockey. I enjoyed the atmosphere today.

- Will this victory help Dinamo Riga improve their season overall?

- Let's be completely honest here: our situation really is rubbish. You won't believe what I'm going to say now, but we really do go out to win every game. I liked the discipline today which allowed us to win. We didn't spend 14 or 16 minutes on the penalty kill, something which was decisive.

HC SKA head coach Valeri Bragin:

- We did well by going 2:0 up early on. The opponents subsequently improved. The coach is always to blame in such defeats, so I fully take responsibility.

- Mikhail Berdin conceded three goals from just 16 shots in regulation.

- He hadn't played for a long time. However, regardless of that, you need to see matches out when leading 2:0.

- SKA are struggling against the teams in the bottom half of the table.

- It's hard to say why. When the team loses after making such a good start, the coaching staff is always to blame.

- When will you compete with the same line combinations?

- A lot of the lines are working well already.

- There weren't many fans inside the Ice Palace.

- We still felt their support.

- SKA took two penalties in overtime.

- I was told that the Riga player fell over himself for the second penalty. I didn't see what happened in the first incident.
