Slender home loss to Dynamo

5 December 2024

In a tense battle, SKA were outlasted by Dynamo Moscow at the Ice Palace, suffering a slender 2:4 home defeat in the 2024/2025 KHL regular season.

SKA appeared to have the upper hand after Arseniy Gritsyuk had equalised on the powerplay in the third period, but Dynamo stole the two points thanks to Maxim Dzhioshvili's clever effort eight minutes from time.

Our players had initially made the perfect start. Grigory Kuzmin scored surely one of our best goals of the campaign so far, completing a superb passing play with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Marat Khairullin from the doorstep.

However, Dynamo responded with two unanswered markers in the second stanza, as Yegor Rimashevsky converted at point-blank range with Pavel Moisevich beaten before Artyom Mikheyev tipped Igor Ozhiganov's wrister past our goalkeeper.

To our relief, we didn't have to wait long for our equaliser in the third frame, with Gritsyuk hammering in when connecting with a smart pass from Tony DeAngelo. Playing with the initiative, SKA were getting closer to a third, but Dzhioshvili struck a killer blow on the counter seconds after the visitors' PP had ended.

Jordan Weal then iced it with a late empty-netter with Moisevich on the bench in favour of the extra skater.

SKA will now prepare to host Barys Astana in Saint Petersburg on Sunday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 local time.
