SKA edge to nervy 1:0 win against Barys!

8 December 2024

In a somewhat uneventful affair, SKA edged past Barys Astana at the Ice Palace in the 2024/2025 regular season, earning a slender 1:0 win.

Our players flattered to deceive at times, but they survived a Barys onslaught in the third period and successfully saw the game out with 20-year-old Pavel Moisevich earning his maiden KHL shutout.

The only goal was scored with slightly over six minutes in the first stanza, with Arseniy Gritsyuk whipping a firm wrister past Barys goaltender Nikita Boyarkin from the right flank on the counter.

SKA went on to dominate the second stanza. However, our finishing in front of goal was somewhat lacking, with the likes of Tony DeAngelo and Evgeny Kuznetsov wasting guilt-edged opportunities.

Our profligacy looked to have cost us midway through the concluding period, when Stanislav Bocharov lashed home on the doorstep. Nonetheless, to our relief, the goal was quickly chalked off as a consequence of offside following a SKA coach's challenge.

Competing with increasing urgency, Barys forced the issue and applied heavy pressure on SKA, but Moisevich refused to be beaten as he produced a handful of wonderful saves at close range - the final of which denied the Kazakh visitors an equaliser with a mere matter of seconds remaining.

SKA will prepare to host Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in Saint Petersburg after the upcoming international break on 17 December. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
