Severstal - SKA

Severstal - SKA - 2:5

16 November 2023

In the third match of this particular away trip of the 2023/2024 KHL regular season, SKA produced a clinical performance against Severstal Cherepovets, earning a comfortable 5:2 road win.

Borna Rendulic initially handed us the advantage in the 15th minute while competing on a 5-on-3 powerplay. However, with a mere 31 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, Danil Aimurzin converted a 1-on-1 opportunity against Johan Mattsson after our team had got caught horribly out of position.

Despite that setback, SKA went on to dominate the second period.

Stepan Falkovsky reinstated our advantage from the high slot in the 29th minute, before Nikolai Polyakov got the better of Severstal goaltender Dmitry Sugaev when skating clean through shorthanded. SKA have indeed now netted six shorthanded goals this season.

Vladimir Alistrov practically ended the game as a contest in the seventh minute of the third frame, expertly tipping Artyom Sergeev's slap shot in.

Severstal immediately conjured up a response with Yegor Stepanov pouncing on the rebound at point-blank range. In the closing stages, the home side did pull Shugaev in

favour of the extra skater, but that only resulted in Marat Khairullin hitting the empty net.

SKA will now prepare to face Lokomotiv in Yaroslavl on Saturday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 local time.
