Korotky fires SKA to victory in Cherepovets!

17 February 2025

KHL Rookie of the Week Matvei Korotky continued his impressive run of form this evening, scoring a wonderful goal and dishing out a clever assist to help SKA earn an important 5:3 triumph at Severstal!

The 19-year-old, who had previously scored twice at Neftekhimik on Saturday, stole the show in Cherepovets, coming up with the goods from the fourth line alongside Grigory Kuzmin and Pavel Dedunov.

Kuzmin initially opened the scoring in the ninth minute on the counter-attack, before Mikhail Kotlyarevsky equalised six minutes later when capitalising on an avoidable defensive turnover.

Adam Liska’s snappy wrister was just too hot for Yegor Zavragin at the start of the second stanza. However, SKA responded in resilient fashion, tallying two unanswered goals on the powerplay before the period was out, as Marat Khairullin lashed in an unstoppable attempt and Evgeny Kuznetsov tipped beyond home goaltender Konstantin Shostak.

Man of the moment Korotky doubled our money midway through the third frame with a trademark wrister on the PP. Refusing to go down without a fight, Severstal clawed back to within one through Ioannis Kaldis and applied plenty of pressure on our defence, but SKA held on and iced it with an empty-netter from Kuznetsov.

SKA will now prepare to host Kunlun Red Star in Saint Petersburg on Saturday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 local time.
