Lokomotiv - SKA - 1:7

13 November 2016

The final match of this KHL road trip took place today in Yaroslavl against HC Lokomotiv. A few changes were made, as Alexander Barabanov returned to the line-up and defenseman Andrei Zubarev was given a rest. Igor Shestyorkin and Lokomotiv's Alexander Sudnitsin were the starting goalkeepers.

Having missed the previous game in Podolsk, Alexander Barabanov was hungry to prove himself. He did just that in the first minute - pulling to the slot, he whipped a wicked effort over the netminder's glove. That set the tone in Yaroslavl, as Lokomotiv were a rabbit caught in the headlights. Before they could settle into the match, it was practically already over - Vyacheslav Voynov rattled his wrister high into the net, and after a terrible turnover, Vadim Shipachyov amazingly made it three.

Little did Lokomotiv know that it was about to get worse. All over the place, the hosts contrived to concede again at the start of the second - Nikita Gusev gave a flowing play the finish it deserved. Our second line was on fire, and soon enough, they got a fifth. On the powerplay, Vadim Shipachyov was left open, and his scuffed shot trickled through Alexander Sudnitsin's legs. Despite taking their timeout, Lokomotiv surprisingly refused to pull their hapless goaltender.

SKA weren't willing to show any mercy, increasing the Lokomotiv pain in the third frame. Evgeny Dadonov got his goal when clean through, and Ilya Kovalchuk joined the party with a heavy one timer. That finally convinced Lokomotiv's coach to change the netminder, as Alexei Murygin took Alexander Sudnitsin. Sadly, Lokomotiv did eventually get on the board - Vladislav Gavrikov stabbed home a rebound to ruin Igor Shestyorkin's shutout hopes. Nevertheless, that was all they had time for, and SKA have beaten Lokomotiv 7:1 to make it fourteen wins in a row!
