Barys - SKA - 1:2 SO

Despite competing with a depleted squad, SKA edged Barys Astana on the road in the 2023/2024 KHL regular season, displaying plenty of character to win 2:1 after a remarkable penalty shootout.

Following two scoreless periods, Barys broke the deadlock on the powerplay in the 42nd minute with Nelson Nogier tapping the puck in from the doorstep.

SKA were on the brink of a harmful loss in terms of the standings. However, with a mere 42 seconds remaining on the clock, Alexander Nikishin saved the day with a firm wrister which was too hot for the unsighted Eddie Pasquale to handle.

A shootout was indeed required to separate the two teams.

Incredibly, after five thrilling rounds, the score was locked at 4:4 with Valentin Zykov having saved a match point! Marat Khairullin then scored in sudden death, before Artemiy Pleshkov - who replaced Pavel Moisevich during the shootout - denied Pontus Aberg to secure a dramatic win.

SKA will now prepare to host Sochi at the SKA Arena in Saint Petersburg on Sunday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 local time.
