Avangard - SKA - 9:5

In a goal-filled thriller against Avangard Omsk, SKA were made to pay for a series of mistakes in the third period, suffering a heavy 5:9 defeat away in the 2023/2024 KHL regular season.

Initially, Arseniy Gritsyuk handed our team the lead in the early stages, but Avangard responded with three consecutive markers from Ivan Igumnov, Igor Martynov and Tomas Jurco.

Nevertheless, SKA got back on level terms before the second frame was out, as Marat Khairullin and Vasily Glotov netted.

The game was there for the taking, but Avangard subsequently took charge with six (!) goals in the third.

Reid Boucher (2), Igumnov and Ivan Nikolishin (empty net) put the home team in a comfortable position. Pavel Dedunov and Stepan Falkovsky did provide SKA with a glimmer of hope, but Avangard then iced it with Boucher and Mark Verba (empty net) scoring further goals.

SKA will now prepare to face Barys Astana in Kazakhstan on Wednesday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 16:30 Moscow time.
