Slender loss against Avangard in Omsk

11 November 2024

Despite creating enough chances to win the game, SKA succumbed to Avangard by a score of 1:2 in Omsk away in the 2024/2025 KHL regular season.

Having initially fallen two goals down in the first period, our players displayed character and got back to within one in the second, but Avangard stood tall to the challenge and weathered the storm – largely thanks to blocking 24 SKA shots.

Avangard opened up a confident two-goal lead thanks to a couple of quickfire goals midway through the maiden stanza. Reid Boucher hit the jackpot with a firm wristed effort through traffic, before Matvei Zaseda beat Yegor Zavragin with our goalkeeper’s view impeded.

SKA were in trouble. However, Valentin Zykov deservedly got our team on the board in the 25th minute, aiming his instant attempt into the gaping right corner when receiving a pinpoint pass from Vasily Glotov.

The visitors started competing with the initiative and carved open several clear opportunities.

Nevertheless, a stubborn Avangard side held on for dear life, blocking shot after shot and protecting goaltender Pavel Khomchenko effectively.

Not even a late powerplay could save SKA.

Our next match is scheduled for Wednesday against Sibir in Novosibirsk.

Puck-drop is scheduled for 15:30 Moscow time.
