Alexander Volkov: "I can develop and become a stronger player with SKA"

HC SKA forward Alexander Volkov:
- It was great to make my KHL debut today, the ice hockey is practically the same in comparison to North America. I felt a bit nervous, but after the first shift my tension disappeared.
- Valeri Bragin noted the speed of your play. What can you say about your performance?
- It was a bit difficult for me today, I hadn't trained for over a week and a half. I think that I will start to improve after a couple of games.
- What did you think of when stepping up to take the decisive penalty shot?
- I used my normal move, but the goalkeeper played well for Metallurg Magnitogorsk.
- Why did you decide to move back to the KHL?
- I couldn't see myself developing abroad, I need to receive more minutes on the ice in this stage of my career. I can calmly develop and become a stronger player here, Saint Petersburg has all of the required facilities. My SKA contract lasts for four years, when I will be 27-28 I will be in the peak of my career.
- Do you want to play at the Olympic Games?
- Of course! I have come here to become a better player. Naturally, the fact that it's the Olympic season had a bearing on my decision to return to Russia. The coaches can clearly see how I am playing and whether I am ready to play for the senior national team.
- In regards to the NHL, do you not regret moving to the Anaheim Ducks and consequently missing out on a second Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning?
- No, everything happens for a reason. This is the way it should be. Instead of trophies, it's more important to become a better player, develop and grow. Then the trophies will come.
- How nice is it to be back in Saint Petersburg?
- I'm really happy to be in Russia again, and Saint Petersburg is a beautiful city. When we will have some days off, I will show my wife where I grew up!
