Admiral - SKA - 3:1

8 November 2022

Despite registering 47 shots on target, SKA couldn't get past Admiral Vladivostok on the road in the 2022/2023 KHL regular season, conceding a 1:3 defeat.

The hosts started with plenty of energy, breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute as Dmitry Sayustov completed a flowing counter-attack from a tight angle on the right flank.

SKA did tally 18 efforts on target during the first period alone. However, not many of them were particularly dangerous, with in-form home goaltender Nikita Serebryakov getting a clear view of all attempts which were unleashed from distance.

The second stanza saw SKA be presented with a couple of powerplay opportunities. At point-blank range, Dmitrij Jaskin really should have drawn SKA level, shooting against Serebryakov's body with the goal practically at his mercy.

Stepan Falkovsky also tested the goaltender's reactions with dangerous shots from the right wing.

Nevertheless, Admiral improved as the period progressed, causing us problems on the counter-attack and scoring their second marker in the 37th minute as Ivan Yemets bundled the puck over the line. SKA used their coach's challenge for goaltender interference, but the goal was given following a short video review.

Predictably, SKA threw everything at Admiral in the third period. When twisting sharply to the doorstep from the left, Valentin Zykov could only shoot against Serebryakov's left pad, before Marat Khairullin's ensuing rebound was bravely blocked by an opponent.

Serebryakov's stubborn resistance was eventually broken with a little under seven minutes remaining. Unmarked to the left of the crease, Nikita Gusev expertly hit the jackpot after receiving a superb diagonal pass from Daniil Pylenkov.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got. SKA pulled goaltender Alexander Samonov for the extra skater in the last three minutes, but that only resulted in Rudolf Cerveny hitting the empty net.

SKA will now prepare to play Amur in Khabarovsk on Thursday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 12:00 Moscow time.
