Linus Weissbach: “I can’t wait to meet my teammates!”

Knowledge about SKA and the city...

"I have long wanted to play in the KHL! I kept an eye on the league for many years. I know that plenty of famous players represented SKA, with Swedes having achieved success here. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the team, the fans and the city itself."

Excitement for travelling to Saint Petersburg...

"I can’t wait to meet my teammates, our fans and learn more about the city. I love history, and I’m aware that Saint Petersburg has lots of it. I’m looking forward to getting to know the city at first hand and becoming familiar with the culture."

Deciding factors when signing for a foreign club...

"Taking into account that I’ve never played in Russia before, it’s vital for me to become acquainted with the language, the city, the country and the culture. I always like to experience new things and meet new people, learning about the city and its history."

Conversations before committing...

"Although I did converse with some Russian players, I mainly spoke to North Americans who had recently played in the KHL. I asked them what the league is about and how it works during the season."

Swedes having competed for SKA...

"Last year, I played with Lars Johansson who had competed here in the 2021/2022 season. He told me how the club operates, consequently helping me make my decision."

On whether he thought about the fact that no player had transferred to the KHL from the SHL for four years...

"Yes, it was an important decision which took a while for me to make. Nonetheless, many Swedes want to come here and play in the KHL, so maybe my transfer will open the door for them to move to here. Everyone who played in the KHL has only good things to say."

Goals for the campaign...

"I’m really looking forward to becoming a member of a successful club and a strong team. I will do everything possible to help SKA embark on an excellent season! I want to influence the team in a positive manner, both on and off the ice. I hope that we will share many memorable moments with the fans."
