Determined SKA grind out vital triumph at Dynamo!

After Marat Khairullin had equalised late on, Nikolai Goldobin subsequently struck in OT to snatch a crucial 2:1 victory for SKA against Dynamo in Moscow!

As a result of a tripping foul committed by Markus Phillips, Dynamo had been presented with a golden opportunity to secure the two points in the extra frame, but our team held on for dear life before Goldobin delivered the dagger.

An even first period saw SKA waste two powerplay opportunities.

Dynamo were creating enough chances of their own too, though, and they took the lead through a familiar face in the 33rd minute.

When powering unchallenged towards our net from the left flank, ex-SKA forward Artyom Shvets-Rogovoi tucked home under Artemiy Pleshkov.

Not long later, Rocco Grimaldi could have equalised when connecting with an intelligent feed from Nikita Nedopyokin, but he contrived to aim his instant effort against Vladislav Podyapolsky’s pads.

SKA gradually began to force the issue in the ensuing third period. And, with a little over five minutes remaining on the clock, our craved goal finally arrived.

Presented with ample time to pick his spot on the slot, Khairullin whipped a firm wrister beyond the stricken Podyapolsky.

Our players certainly had their backs to the wall in overtime after Phillips’ foul, but Goldobin’s unstoppable one-timer on the counter in the concluding minute was a deserved reward for their determined effort.

It’s also worth noting that Sergei Plotnikov marked his 1000th KHL appearance with a pair of decisive assists as he produced a man-of-the-match performance!

SKA will now prepare to host Dinamo Minsk in Saint Petersburg on Wednesday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
