CSKA - SKA. Facts of game five

11 April 2021

With the match lasting 113 minutes and 51 seconds, it became SKA's longest game in history.

By scoring at 113:51, Vasily Podkolzin scored SKA's latest winning goal in the KHL, beating defenseman Lukas Bengtsson's previous record of 113:27 which had been set against Vityaz in Podolsk on 7 March 2020. Interestingly, SKA had twice previously played in three overtime periods against CSKA in the Gagarin Cup playoffs, losing on both of those occasions on 28 March 2015 and 26 March 2016.

At the age of 19 years, nine months and 17 days, Vasily Podkolzin also became the youngest SKA player to score in overtime in the Gagarin Cup playoffs, beating the previous record which was set by Alexander Barabanov (22 years, nine months, 10 days) on 27 March 2017 against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. Furthermore, the teenage forward is the 40th player to score for SKA in overtime in the KHL.

This match also marked the first time when Podkolzin scored two senior SKA goals in one game.

For the first time in club history, SKA have earned four victories in overtime during one Gagarin Cup playoffs campaign. SKA had tallied three wins in extra time in the post-season in 2011, 2015, 2017 and 2019.
