OT setback to Torpedo at home

1 October 2025

Despite holding a two-goal lead, SKA couldn't get the job done against Torpedo at home in the 2025/2026 KHL regular season, slipping to an avoidable 2:3 overtime setback.

It all appeared to be going swimmingly well for SKA after two periods, but the away side hit back with two markers in the third frame before subsequently completing the comeback in OT.

Following a goalless opening stanza, SKA eventually made the breakthrough in the 35th minute on the powerplay.

At point-blank range, Igor Larionov gave a flowing passing play the perfect finish to score his maiden SKA goal.

It didn't take long for our players to double their advantage either.

The in-form Brennan Menell was the hero, whipping the puck past away goalkeeper Denis Kostin after Matvei Korotky and Matvei Polyakov put together a wonderful move.

Unfortunately, though, that was as good as it got for SKA.

Yegor Vinogradov pulled one back for the Nizhny Novgorod-based outfit in the 47th minute, tapping over the line unchallenged when taking advantage of a poor SKA defensive lapse.

Vasily Atanasov then levelled the game up with a little less than seven minutes remaining, cooly converting a penalty shot after Sergei Plotnikov had committed a foul against Nikita Artamonov who was clean through.

SKA really should have won it in the extra frame. But, after Trevor Murphy had wasted a glorious 1-on-1 chance, Torpedo iced it with Robert Nardella hammering home with SKA goaltender Sergei Ivanov already down and out.

Our next game is scheduled for Friday against Spartak in Moscow. Puck-drop will take place at 19:00 local time.
