SKA - Sibir - 1:4

23 September 2020

In Saint Petersburg, SKA conceded their maiden home defeat of the 2020/2021 KHL campaign, as Sibir Novosibirsk claimed a 4:1 triumph at the Ice Palace. For this match, our club participated mainly with young prospects from SKA-Neva and SKA-1946, with the average age standing at a mere 20 years and 263 days - a new league record.

Goalkeeper Mikhail Berdin made his SKA debut between the pipes.

Sibir promptly took the lead in the early stages as Efim Gurkin's effort was inadvertently deflected in by Marat Khusnutdinov. However, our youngsters didn't let that affect them, as they subsequently responded with energetic play. Ivan Morozov equalised with a penalty shot after Evgeny Timkin had been fouled against.

SKA continued competing with the initiative in the second stanza. However, after missing a number of opportunities, Sibir earned their second advantage as Evgeny Chesalin used a defensive error to the full. Juuso Pustinen then grabbed another before the frame was out to firmly put Sibir in the box seat.

Unfortunately, the Finnish forward scored again in the third period, sealing the victory for Sibir.

SKA will now prepare to face Ak Bars at home on Friday in the next regular season game. Puck drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
