SKA - Sibir

SKA - Sibir - 1:0

16 February 2023

In a predictably tight, tactical duel, SKA held on to defeat Sibir Novosibirsk 1:0 at the Ice Palace in the 2022/2023 KHL regular season.

This game was dedicated to the Hockey Fights Cancer charity initiative, with our players competing with special jerseys with the name of Rodion Amirov stated on them for the morning training session. The Salavat Yulaev Ufa forward is currently battling against cancer.

SKA struck the decisive blow on the powerplay midway through the first period.

Unmarked on the left faceoff circle, Alexander Nikishin hammered an unstoppable slap shot over Anton Krasotkin's extended glove.

At the end of the stanza, Sibir thought that they had equalised on the man advantage, but the buzzer had sounded a moment before Trevor Murphy's effort had sailed past the unsighted Dmitry Nikolaev.

Sibir increased their pressing throughout the remaining two frames.

Nevertheless, with Nikolaev in unbeatable form, the Siberian visitors couldn't find a way through.

SKA will now prepare to host Traktor Chelyabinsk in Saint Petersburg on Sunday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 17:00 local time.
