One point for SKA in Nizhny

8 September 2025

SKA left Nizhny Novgorod with just the one point, conceding an avoidable 2:3 OT loss to Torpedo in the second away match of the 2025/2026 KHL regular season.

Having twice recovered from falling behind, SKA had a couple of glorious opportunities to earn the all-important second point in the extra frame, but Sergei Plotnikov struck the crossbar and Trevor Murphy could only aim his unchallenged shot into the glove.

After SKA had initially made a positive start, Torpedo took their maiden lead in the seventh minute with Yegor Sokolov getting the better of Artemiy Pleshkov.

Nikolai Goldobin promptly drew SKA level in the early stages of the second stanza when slamming the rebound home at point-blank range. However, Torpedo once again managed to take the advantage nine minutes later, as Vladislav Firstov knocked the loose puck over the line.

Displaying character, SKA battled hard in the third, forcing overtime when Plotnikov gave a flowing passing play on the PP the perfect finish. That was as good as it got, though, as Yegor Vinogradov grabbed the winner for Torpedo with a mere nine seconds remaining.

SKA will now prepare to host Traktor Chelyabinsk at the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace on Thursday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 19:30 local time.
