Severstal - SKA. Match facts

3 September 2021

Six SKA players made their Russian championship debuts for our team: Daniil Pylenkov (defenseman), Stepan Falkovsky (defenseman), Zakhar Bardakov (forward), Matvei Michkov (forward), Danila Moiseev (forward) and Fredrik Handemark (forward). Overall, 500 different players have now represented SKA in the Russian championship regular season and playoffs.

Across 30 seasons (1992/1993 - 2021/2022), almost half of the 500 players (248) only spent one campaign with SKA. Goalkeeper Maxim Sokolov holds the record, having played for SKA during 13 seasons.

Forward Matvei Michkov became the youngest player to compete for SKA in the KHL at the age of 16 years, eight months and 24 days. The previous record was held by defenseman Arseniy Koromyslov, who made his SKA debut at the age of 16 years, 10 months and 20 days. Four players (Kirill Safronov, Dmitry Lavrov, Yegor Mikhaylov, Ilya Gorbushin) had made their maiden SKA appearances when younger than Matvei, however, in the Russian championship before the KHL was founded.

Fellow forward Fredrik Handemark scored his first competitive SKA goal on his KHL debut. He is indeed the fifth Swedish player to score for SKA in his first match for our team, following in the footsteps of Mika Hannula (2007), Mattias Weinhandl (2010), Jimmie Ericsson (2014) and Joakim Lindstrom (2015).
