2021 Sochi Hockey Open. SKA - Avtomobilist - 3:4 SO

5 August 2021

In the second match of the 2021 Sochi Hockey Open, SKA couldn't hold off the challenge of Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg, conceding a narrow 3:4 defeat after a penalty shootout.

The action burst into life at the start of the second stanza. When playing 3-on-5, Joonas Kemppainen managed to open the scoring when capitalising on a defensive mistake from the opponents, but Avtomobilist instantly equalised just a matter of 18 seconds later.

The Yekaterinburg outfit subsequently scored a second consecutive powerplay goal in the 24th minute to take the lead.

Nevertheless, SKA replied in the closing stages of the period, as Igor Ozhiganov and Anton Burdasov - on the powerplay - put our team 3:2 ahead.

That advantage was, however, wiped out with a little over five minutes remaining in the third period by Avtomobilist. The opposing team then went on to win the ensuing shootout 2:1, with the teams only taking three shots instead of the usual five.

SKA will now prepare to face Traktor Chelyabinsk at the competition on Saturday. Puck-drop is scheduled for 13:00 local time.
