Dinamo Riga - SKA. Match day

7 January 2017

SKA's third match in this KHL away series will take place in Latvia against HC Dinamo Riga.

For the second season in a row, Dinamo have endured a torrid time in the KHL. Distracted by off the ice matters, Dinamo's talented bunch of players have failed to deliver the goods, losing an incredible 32 of 46 regular season games. Despite over a month to go before the championship ends, Dinamo's Gagarin Cup playoffs hopes have long been dead in the water. Nevertheless, despite their woes, Dinamo have slightly improved of late, beating Metallurg Novokuznetsk 6:0, Jokerit 3:2 SO and Severstal Cherepovets 5:2 along with losing to Jokerit 0:3 and CSKA Moscow 0:2. They're also one of SKA's most awkward opponents in the league, defeating our team on regular occurance. Indeed the last game in Riga between these two teams last February ended with a 4:2 Dinamo victory.

Scoring only 88 goals this season, it's not hard to see where Dinamo's problems lie. Lauris Darzins is their top scorer with a mere 21 points (6+15), but 25 year old goalkeeper Janis Kalnins has been a bright spark, putting in a number of impressive performances. His saves percentage is 92.4.

Unfortunately, SKA are going through a rough patch of form, losing four on the spin. Such poor results have allowed CSKA to catch the team up at the top of the table, but SKA do have one game in hand over the Moscow outfit.

The Dinamo Riga - SKA match will begin at 18.00 Moscow time inside the Arena Riga, Riga, Latvia. Life78 will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
