Igor Larionov's reaction after winning in Kazakhstan

HC SKA head coach Igor Larionov:

"Despite the recent tragic events here, we're happy to be in Kazakhstan. In sport there can be only one winner, though, and I would like to congratulate our players with their victory. We also have to give credit to Barys, who continued trying hard while attempting to save the game.

"I think that the fans enjoyed the match. However, as coaches, we would like to get the job done earlier. We will now prepare for CSKA."

Vasily Glotov and Sergei Plotnikov both scoring twice...

"These are Vasily's first two goals of the season, so hopefully he will now play with more confidence. We're happy that Sergei is continuing to compete productively.

"Nonetheless, we're concerned about the fact that Barys created more chances than us. Regardless of the score, we want to play in the correct manner. And playing the right way doesn't mean that you have to be conservative. In this regard, we have things to improve on. We have to be wiser in situations which arise on the ice; we should never be giving our opponents so many scoring opportunities."

Issue of giving up lots of chances...

"We stopped playing intelligent ice hockey. When it comes to our organisation, we need to make major improvements and be more solid. We've spoken to the guys about this, but so far the message isn't fully getting through. Yes, we can see signs of the hockey which we want to display, but we're allowing opposing teams to play how they like. Good teams know both how to attack and defend effectively."

Two goals from Glotov...

"Our conversation lasted for around 40 minutes yesterday. I simply wanted to hear what he had to say, what he was feeling. The goal of our talk was to make him feel relaxed and gain confidence. When you avoid overthinking it or putting pressure on yourself, good things start to happen. More will come from Vasily."
