Media briefing before facing CSKA in the Gagarin Cup playoffs

HC SKA head coach Igor Larionov:
Thoughts on facing CSKA Moscow...
"We're going to take it game-by-game. CSKA are a top side which played a major role in my career. They've won the Gagarin Cup a few times, twice in a row not long ago. We respect our opponents and are preparing for the first match."
Who will be SKA's starting goalkeeper...
"We know who will play tomorrow, but we'll release that information in the morning."
What makes CSKA a difficult opponent...
"They have a team built for the playoffs. Furthermore, the same can be said for their coach. We will have to break down their organised, solid defence. We're analysing CSKA and searching for their weaknesses. Can quick passes and sharp movement help us find holes in their back line? Yes, of course."
Analysis of CSKA...
"We are looking at how they compete in their zone and at neutral ice, the approach used by their defensemen and their compactness. If you commit mistakes in certain areas, they'll punish you."
Role to be played by the young players...
"We all start with a clean slate in the playoffs. Moreover, you normally see new heroes emerge in the knockouts. Our younger guys have gained vital experience during the regular season, and we will support them in this new competition. Instead of being too conservative, we want to give them the opportunity to improvise and bring the relevant characteristics which young players offer. We don't want them to feel stressed."
HC SKA captain Sergei Plotnikov:
Factor of being SKA's oldest and most experienced player...
"The playoffs are the best time of year! This is what we've been working towards throughout the entire campaign. I love being a part of our team."
Winning the Gagarin Cup with both Saint Petersburg and CSKA...
"I'm trying not to think about that. It doesn't matter who I used to play for; I simply need to give my all for SKA, the fans and the city. I want to play my ice hockey without any unnecessary thoughts in my head."
Challenges of playing CSKA in the playoffs...
"That's a question for the coaches. We will play our own brand of ice hockey, and the same can be said for CSKA. The series will show who's stronger."
