Igor Larionov speaks after beating Dynamo on the road

HC SKA head coach Igor Larionov:
“First of all, I want to wish all females a very Happy International Women’s Day! They’re the dearest people to us.
“And, of course, I want to congratulate all SKA fans with this result. Sergei Plotnikov, who was making his 1000th KHL appearance, made a fantastic assist in overtime. Such tough games help form team spirit, and I’m really happy that our guys found the strength within themselves to salvage the match.”
How SKA improved…
“We moved down to three lines after the initial two periods. We displayed great commitment, aided by top goalkeeping when we were competing shorthanded. Dynamo are always strong on the powerplay, but we managed to keep them at bay.”
Chances of finishing in the top four…
“It’s not a good thing to constantly check the standings. Our main task is to continue forming our team while moving in the right direction. At this moment in time, we just want to take it game by game. A group of fresh players will return to our side for our next match on Wednesday.”
Lack of entertainment…
“Yes, the majority of the game wasn’t particularly entertaining, but the last few minutes were exciting. Fatigue, both physical and mental, is taking its toll too. I understand that everyone wants to watch thrilling ice hockey, but a lot of teams are solely focused on the result instead.
“Having beaten Dinamo in Minsk on Thursday, we wanted to continue playing with the same drive, same emotion. I’m proud of how our players managed to win this match.”
Leonids Tambijevs’ role in the coaching staff…
“I’m always open to new ideas and thoughts. His pragmatism, his way of playing out from defence are things which we require. Since he’s started working with us, I’ve given up some of the responsibility when it comes to talking to the team. He knows how to get through to players in a stricter manner.”
