Igor Larionov speaks after playing CSKA in Moscow

HC SKA head coach Igor Larionov:
“There are a lot of positives to take away from this game. And, this is a really important point. We should be happy with what we’ve got, as this is important for our process of building a team which fights for one another. Yes, it’s a shame that we couldn’t score in overtime, but we’re satisfied with the point.”
Leonid Tambiev’s role in the coaching staff…
“Given that he was out of work, we gave him a call. When he was head coach of Vladivostok, his team played with clear organisation, structure and defensive discipline. As you know, I’m a coach who likes to give players freedom and ensure they remember that ice hockey’s a game, but we need flexibility which can yield positive results. Leonid knows how to build such foundations.”
Positives to come out of this match…
“I always want to focus on the positives. Nevertheless, I wouldn’t start speculating that the team is back in shape after just the one game. We need to embark on a good run in order to relieve us of the pressure which is currently on our shoulders. Even when we lose, it’s vital that we play the right way. Today, regardless of the result, we saw a team on the ice. Right now, we’re lacking the required dynamics which will allow for us to utilise our forwards’ best qualities on the wings. This performance has filled us with hope that we’re recovering.”
