SKA - Medvescak. Match day

27 October 2016

SKA will play the second match of this KHL home series against HC Medvescak Zagreb.

Despite SKA having never lost a game to Medvescak in Saint Petersburg, the Croats were the last team to beat SKA, tallying up a dramatic 5:4 victory in overtime at home. Indeed, having not made the playoffs for the past couple of seasons, Medvescak have been much improved this year, winning 12 games out of 24. They gave CSKA a real scare in their previous fixture too, scoring the first goal in Moscow before eventually losing 1:3.

Nevertheless, five points off a playoff berth, Medvescak are languishing in 12th place of the Western Conference. Recently, the Croats were handed a blow as first choice goaltender Danny Taylor left for Novosibirsk, but fellow Canadian Drew McIntyre has been drafted in and holds an impressive 92.8 saves percentage. Boasting 14 points (5+9), forward Colby Genoway is their top scorer.

Our players made it ten wins in a row on Tuesday, thrashing Slovan Bratislava 6:1 in the Ice Palace. As a result, SKA continue to lead in the standings, holding a four point advantage over CSKA Moscow. Ilya Kovalchuk has 35 points to his name (15+20).

The SKA – Medvescak game will begin at 19.30 local time inside the Saint Petersburg Ice Palace. Life78 and KHL TV HD will broadcast live, and you can follow events on our official Twitter account.
