Alexander Medvedev: “23,745 in attendance is a new world record!”

Alexander Medvedev, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SKA Hockey Club, clarified the number of people in attendance at the SKA versus Sochi match at the SKA Arena in Saint Petersburg.

The final figure was 23,745, an absolute world record for an ice hockey match. The game was staged as a part of the 2023/2024 KHL regular season.

Chairman of the SKA Board of Directors Alexander Medvedev:

- During the third period it was announced that 21,481 people were present at the game. This number referred to spectators who entered the arena with tickets. However, if we include accredited guests invited by SKA and Sochi, players’ families, volunteers and those who worked at the match, there were another 2,264 people at the SKA Arena. Therefore, the total number of people in attendance was 23,745, a new world record. Taking into account accredited persons when calculating attendance figures corresponds to global practice.

SKA will play five more matches at the SKA Arena in the regular season against Lada Tolyatti (February 13), Salavat Yulaev Ufa (February 15), Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod (February 18), Severstal Cherepovets (February 20) and Kunlun Red Star (February 25).
