Alexei Semenov

Alexey Semenov is a defenceman who is a product of the Murmansk hockey school. After starting off his career with Krylya Sovetov in 1997, he then played 19 games for SKA's reserve team in the next season. He then moved to North America, where in the 1999 NHL Draft he was picked by the Edmonton Oilers. He debuted for the Canadian club in the 2002/2003 season, and during the lockout in 2004 he returned to Russia to play for SKA. Upon return to the NHL he was immediately traded to the Phoenix Coyotes, but in the 2006/2007 he played 20 matches for Russian side Salavat Yulaev. Afterwards he played a couple of seasons for the San Jose Sharks before permanently staying at home in Russia, where in 2009 he became a Dynamo Moscow player and then transferring to SKA a year later. With SKA Alexey has won the Spengler Cup in 2009, and in 2013 he became a champion of the Continental Cup and bronze medalist of the KHL. He has represented the Russian national team at the Euro Hockey Tour.
